Bass Rodeo - May 30

Bass Moving Project

Flaming Gorge, May 30, 2014

Sounds more like a rodeo to me!  This is how it will work:

Anglers will meet at 7 a.m. on May 30 at the Mustang Ridge upper parking lot near the rest rooms near Dutch John. Then they will spread out and fish, trying to catch as many 8- to 10-inch fish as they can, keeping them alive in their live wells on board their boats. Later, they will off-load their catches to a DWR boat fitted with holding tanks for the fish. This way, no participant will break any regulations about how many fish they can have on their boats. Once the event ends at 2 p.m., the fish will be transported from the dam area of the lake to the northern areas of the reservoir and stocked in several prime locations.

It is believed that the timing of this transplant will still allow these fish to spawn this year, thus giving a needed boost to bass recruitment for 2014 and beyond.
