Brannan Island State Recreation Area is a beautiful, park-like, setting on the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers.
Northeast of San Francisco Bay, Brannan Island sits in a maze of waterways that wind through the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Countless islands and marshes with varying wildlife habitats and plenty opportunities for recreation, including boating, windsurfing and swimming can be found in this beautiful natural area. Brannan Island is on Highway 160, 3 miles south of the city of Rio Vista, in Sacramento County. The park is located on the lower peninsular extension of Brannan Island, and is surrounded by the Sacramento River on the west, Three Mile Slough on the southeast, and Seven Mile Slough on the northeast.
This State Recreation Area has several campgrounds with over 120 sites for various types of camping; from walk-in tent sites to RV hook-up sites and even a cabin. There are 4 group sites for overnight camping for up to 30 people in each and 4 group picnic sites.
An impressive 10 boat launches, found within the SRA, give access to over 1000 miles of meandering waterways to fish for striped bass. Brannan Island makes the perfect place to camp to enjoy Rio Vista's annual Bass Fishing Derby held the 2nd weekend in October since 1933.
