Hard Rock Campground, McKenzie River, Oregon

Hard Rock Campground

Willamette National Forest \ McKenzie River Ranger District

Hard Rock Campground is actually designated as a group campground although the group size is only 10 people.  The price is comparable to many single sites in the area but Hard Rock provides the serene privacy of a remote get-away.  2 or 3 small families  or 5 couples would enjoy this beautiful little gem on the South Fork McKenzie River, south of Cougar Reservoir, Oregon.

Campers enjoy catch and release trout fishing in the river and hiking/biking on the many trails.  Hikers access the Three Sisters Wilderness Area via the French Pete Creek Trail.  For mountain bikers with good backcountry skills, the Indian Ridge Trail, accessed via the Indian Ridge South Trailhead, is near Hard Rock Campground.  After a hard day of hiking or biking, cool off in Cougar Reservoir then soak those tired muscles in Terwilliger Hot Springs.

Hard Rock Group Campground is generally open from mid-May through mid-September.  And here's the tip of the century...because it is a group site, you can make your reservation up to one year in advance of your arrival!  Follow the link to check rates, availability and any forest restrictions:  Recreation.gov \ Hard Rock Group

Five campsites are dispersed around the loop.  The campground is primitive.  No water or electricity is available.  Bring your own drinking water.  RV's are not allowed in this site.  Hard Rock Group is for tent-only camping.  Campfire rings, picnic tables, portable toilets and trash receptacles are provided.
