Sutton Campground is about 5 miles north of Florence in the Sutton Recreation Area.  This is a year-round campground that has electric hookups.  We are close to the sand dunes but OHV's must stay on the trailers in Sutton.  Families, who have a mix of people who love OHVing the dunes and those who don't, enjoy Sutton Campground for the peace and quiet atmosphere.

Use caution while traveling and camping during coastal storms that can bring high winds and dangerous sea conditions.  Sutton is not oceanfront but campers enjoy nearby beachcombing after the storms.  For oceanfront camping see Tillicum Beach Campground.

Sutton has 3 group areas for overnight campers.  One group area may be reserved for a group picnic.  Group areas may be reserved up to a year in advance through www.recreation.gov or 1-877-444-6777.

Sutton has a beautiful trail system that skirts Sutton Creek all the way out to the beach or to Alder Dune Campground.  Near the entrance there is a boardwalk around a small bog where the rare, carnivorous, Darlingtonia plant grows.  Sutton Lake Boat Launch is just across Hwy 101 about 1/2 mile north of the Sutton Recreation Area sign.  Be sure to get a car pass from the Campground Host.  Display it on your dashboard when visiting any state or federal day use areas along the Oregon coast to save you additional parking fees.

Baker Beach is just a couple miles north.  Turn west on Baker Beach Rd just after the horse stables.  Or, better yet, schedule a horseback ride on the beach and over the dunes.  The stretch of Hwy 101 from Sutton to Waldport is some of the most scenic of the Oregon Coast.  Sea Lion Caves, Heceta Head Lighthouse, Rock Creek Wilderness, Cummins Creek and Cape Perpetua Scenic Area are all concentrated in this short 26 miles.  There are lots of pull-outs for whale watching and access to the beach for exploring the tidepools and agate hunting.  The next fuel station is Yachats; about 21 miles north of Sutton Campground.

To the south is the bustling town of Florence, home of the famous Mo's Seafood in Old Town on the Siuslaw River.   Florence has the cheapest fuel in the state so fuel up here before you head out.  Other things you'll find in Florence: groceries, antiques, dune buggy rides, sand boarding and a casino.  Take Heceta Beach Road out to the county park to enjoy a day at the beach (the county does not accept your campground car pass in lieu of the day use fee).

Looking South over Dunes and Baker Beach

​As you drive south on Hwy 101 from Sea Lion Caves you'll come to this beautiful overlook of the Oregon Dunes.  Sutton Recreation Area is nestled in these older dunes where the coastal shrubbery thrives.

Sutton Campground is cozied up to Sutton Creek as it winds its way to the ocean.

Common Area in Loop D Group

​Loop D can accommodate from 30 to 100 people.  It has 11 paved parking spurs for vehicles or RVs; including 2 electric hookup sites.  This common area has picnic tables, a group fire ring, extra parking and a small covered table with an electrical outlet for small appliances.  D001 is the designation for this area on http://www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777.

​Your group can spread out in the Loop D (D001) group area of Sutton Campground.  There are 11 campsites, including 2 with electric hookups, and a large common area for games.  Playing on the sand dune is also a favorite activity.  This group are is more isolated from the rest of the campground.

Group Overnight or Picnic Area - Loop C

​This group site has a large pavilion with picnic tables, grills and a group fire ring.  Men's and Women's flush restrooms and a large parking area for up to 20 vehicles are on-site.  Reserve your group picnic or overnight camping up to a year in advance on www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777.  The designation for this site is C001.

Expanded Use Group Area - Loop C

​In the past this beautiful group area has been under utilized as a picnic area only.  Beginning in 2013, this group site is also able to be used for group camping for up to 100 people.  This is site C001 on www.recreation.gov.

Sutton Trails Map

Trails lead along Sutton Creek, over sand dunes, and if you aren't worn out by then, out to the beach.  Take a friend and make noise, black bears live in the area.
