New Meteor Shower Tonight

Camelopardalids could be the best meteor shower this year

Campgrounds are a great place to watch a meteor shower.  There is usually little or no light to interfere with the natural light of the stars.  You've never seen so many stars as you will on a clear night in a campground.

This meteor shower is caused by the earth passing through the debris from comet 209P/LINEAR.  Meteors will radiate out from the little known constellation Camelopardalis; which is below the end of the handle of the Little Dipper.

According to EarthSky, "Models suggest that the best viewing hours are between 6 and 8 UTC on May 24. That is between 2 and 4 a.m. EDT (1-3 a.m. CDT and so on …translate your time zone here)

So, if the sky is clear, point your lounge chair to the north, snuggle up in your sleeping bag and watch how Mother Nature puts on a fireworks display.
