Severe storm damage closes Bellaire Lake Campground, Colorado

Bellaire Lake Campground

Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest / Canyon Lakes Ranger District

Bellaire Lake Campground is in the Red Feather Lakes area of northwestern Colorado.  A severe storm raged through the area on May 22, 2014.  Some people called it a tornado, others said it was a micro-burst.  Whatever it was, extreme winds leveled more than 200 trees in the Red Feather Lakes area.

We are SO grateful that no one was hurt!  3 campers and the Campground Managers were onsite during the storm.  Campground Managers report damage to their truck and trailer.  It moved their rig 1 foot and the golf cart several feet from where they were parked.

It will take some time to clean this up and make it safe again for campers.  For camping alternatives in the area check here:  Canyon Lakes Area

Remember, "your safety is your responsibility.  Live and dead trees can fall without warning", FS Alert.
