If you are looking for a secluded campground for your group of up to 100 people, Altamont might be just what you are looking for. It is conveniently located right on the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway. The adjacent Mount Timpanogos Wilderness Area provides stunning views along the Timpooneke Trail to the summit of Mount Timpanogos.
Altamont Group is generally open from late May to late September but the season could be shortened by the snowfall. Reservations are taken for early June through Labor Day and can be made up to a year in advance. The busiest weeks are from the last week in June through the 2nd week in August. Altamont offers a large picnic shelter, flush toilets and drinking water. Several picnic tables and a campfire circle are located in the shelter. The short road from the Alpine Loop to the campsite is paved, as is a large parking area. Timpanogos Cave National Monument is a few miles down American Fork Canyon, Cascade Springs is just 9 miles from the campground. Nearby Tibble Fork and Silver Flat Reservoirs offer canoeing, kayaking and fishing for rainbow, brook and brown trout. Mountain biking and horse trails are also nearby.
